Notice Title

1-697 Developing Projects in Environmentally Sensitive Areas

Notice Description

Highways England (HE) are undertaking a piece of work to review current organisational practices related to the early stage development of projects in environmentally sensitive areas and identify how we can enhance our strategic and operational response to this agenda in the future. This work is to be progressed with key external stakeholders to develop a set of principles to foster, and ultimately deliver, schemes that are sensitive to their environmental and wider functions as well as support the key role they play as a transport link or node within the Strategic Road Network (SRN). The work is a response to growing expectations from these stakeholders and the Department for Transport (DfT) to deliver projects that not only deliver solutions to transport problems, but provide high quality projects that are responsive to their sense of place, particularly in environmentally sensitive areas. Consultancy support is required to support the development of this work, in particular providing advice and technical support on the feasibility of international industry leading design and architectural approaches and to provide an understanding of the costs and challenges of some of the options that may be considered as part of this work.
