Notice Title

Future skills projections and analysis - review and assessment of leading and emerging methodologies

Notice Description

The Unit for Future Skills (UFS) is an analytical and research unit within the Department for Education. It has been set up to improve the quality of jobs and skills data, working across government to make it available and more accessible to policy makers, stakeholders, and the general public. Skills and training decisions need to consider not only the current skills needs, but future developments. However, analysis of future skills needs is carried out with varying levels of coordination and quality depending on the area of the economy and the body carrying out that analysis. The aim of this project is to review and assess leading and emerging methodologies for analysis of future skills needs. This will help prepare the UFS to become a centre of expertise on future skills supporting other actors (such as employers) to carry-out more robust and reliable analysis. There are three main types of analysis to include: * Type 1: Economy-wide skills projections or forecasts that are consistent with the overall economic outlook (growth and employment). For example, testing whether it is possible to improve on existing approaches, such as Working Futures' projections of employment by occupation. * Type 2: Analysis of future skills needs for a specific segment of the economy, which may not necessarily be consistent with the overall economic outlook. This is typically carried out for specific sectors or in relation to a specific new technology. * Type 3: Ways of reconciling or validating analysis type 2 with type 1 so that it is more consistent and reliable when compared against the overall economic outlook. This opportunity will be conducted under the Crown Commercial Service's RM6126 Research & Insights DPS. You must be registered as a supplier on RM6126 Research & Insights DPS to have the opportunity to be selected to receive the Bid Pack / invitation to tender for this competition.
