Notice Description

The National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) is funded by the Department for Education and marks a significant investment in improving the provision of computing education in England. Run by a consortium made up of STEM Learning, the Raspberry Pi Foundation and BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, our vision is to achieve a world-leading computing education for every child in England. We provide high-quality support for the teaching of computing in schools and colleges, from Key Stage 1 through to A level. Our extensive range of training, resources and support covers elements of the curriculum at every Key Stage, catering for all levels of subject knowledge and experience. With an overall ambition to train over 7,000 teachers to be confident in teaching computer science, the CS Champion will be a key role in raising awareness of the CS Accelerator Programme and providing support across their region. They will report directly to a NCCE Programme team member supporting all local Computing Hubs in meeting their local and indeed the national KPIs. Oversight of the CS Champions will be provided by the CSA Programme Manager. The CS Champion function can be taken up by one person or shared between several people. This will be based on the region's needs analysis, secondary experience needed and the reach the CS Champion needs to achieve. Each region will look and feel different based on that region and a Computing Hubs circumstances, based on number of schools teaching Computer Science within a local region and the distribution of teachers. The National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) will support the CS Champions in their role with expertise and guidance on CS Accelerator Programme. Support provided by NCCE will include: Initial training: best practice, documentation, trackers and systems. Adhoc and regular educational support via either Slack, emails, phone calls. Half termly chats/calls/video conferencing to share best practice Attendance at termly Network meetings hosted by STEM Learning Best practice documentation and guidance School trackers for both GCSE and non GCSE school to help identify and plan a strategic approach to engagement Other support offered by NCCE: Facilitator Development Programme stage 1 and 2 Completion of the CS Accelerator programme, Access to NCCE online and face-to-face courses for development Embedding into an already formed network of networks including CAS CoP, Science Learning Partnerships, Ambassador Hubs. Additional information: Posts will be based in a region, to achieve full geographical coverage, and will support a number of secondary schools and colleges within their assigned region, working closing with their appropriate Computing Hubs. Length of opportunity: Until end of July 2020 Start date: As soon as possible, or October 2019 Location of the Work: You will be based in one of our 11 regions and the number of contract days will vary according to regional need. Fee: Consultants will be paid a day rate for undertaking the work of the programme. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid in line with STEM Learning's expenses policy.
