Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process pertains to a clinical trial titled "KCL-00001335 - CANTOP", conducted by King's College London, located in London (postal code SE5). This open tender is part of the laboratory services industry and has a budget of £1,000,000, with a minimum value of £600,000. The tender period is set to close on 22nd July 2021, with the project expected to commence on 1st September 2021 and conclude by 2nd September 2024. The trial aims to investigate the efficacy of cannabidiol (CBD) in treating early psychosis, engaging approximately 300 patients over a total duration of approximately 42 months. Interested vendors are invited to provide investigational medicinal products as well as related support and services, complying with specified requirements.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in the pharmaceutical and clinical trial sectors, particularly those specialising in the manufacturing of medicinal products and quality control testing. Companies that can supply GMP grade CBD, manage the stability and validation testing of products, and handle logistics related to trial site distribution would be ideally suited to compete. Engaging in this tender could lead to long-term collaborations in innovative health research, enhancing business growth through participation in NHS-funded trials and increased visibility in the UK healthcare landscape.

Notice Description

CANTOP-RCT is a non-commercial, UK multi-centre, pragmatic, parallel group, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of cannabidiol (CBD) as a treatment in early psychosis. The primary objective of this trial is to test whether treatment with CBD improves psychotic symptoms when added to Treatment as Usual (TAU) in Clinical High Risk (CHR) patients. Patients will be randomised in a 1:1 ratio to either TAU + Cannabidiol or TAU + Placebo. The sample size is 300 patients (n=150 per arm). Patient recruitment will take place over 3 years. The total duration from first patient visit, to last patient visit, is anticipated to be 42 months. The trial is co-sponsored by King's College London and South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) programme. Service providers are invited to tender for the manufacture of the investigational medicinal products (including procurement of GMP grade CBD), complete associated stability and QC validation/testing, QP release, and store and distribute the IMP to UK trial sites.
