Notice Title

Introducing Drug Safety Checking in Bristol

Notice Description

Bristol City Council is seeking a provider of a rapid pop-up Drug Checking Service in Bristol so that people who use drugs can attend the service (once a month over payday weekend), submit a substance of concern for rapid forensic analysis including the substance being tested for content and purity. The results of the testing are then used to inform an individually tailored intervention, lasting approximately 30 minutes and focusing on reducing the harms associated with illicit drug use. Any organisation providing this service will require a pop-up laboratory that can be assembled and removed on the same day with the ability to test a range of common drugs including Cocaine, Heroin, MDMA, Ketamine, Amphetamine, Crack, 2C-B and benzodiazepines. We understand that substances derived from organic matter (Cannabis, Mushrooms etc) cannot be tested in this way. The results of each laboratory analysis will need to be available within 1 hour and harm reduction interventions must be provided by exceptionally well qualified and experience healthcare professionals including, Chemists, Psychiatrists, RMN, RGN and highly experienced drugs workers. The service will be confidential and free at the point of access. The service will need to collect and share data pertaining to new trends and patterns of use and be well positioned to disseminate risk alerts both locally and further afield should contaminated substance be identified.
