Summary of the contracting process

The Science Museum Group is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor and CDM Coordinator for the Medicine Galleries Project, which aims to create a groundbreaking suite of new galleries that celebrate the history of medicine and engage audiences with biomedical science. The project, classified under quantity surveying services, has a total value of £277,710 and is located in the South East of England. This procurement is currently in the award stage, with the contract period spanning from September 1, 2014, to September 25, 2019, and the chosen procurement method is a selective approach following a restricted procedure.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly in the fields of quantity surveying, construction consultancy services, and museum construction work. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that specialise in these areas would be well-suited to compete for this contract, given the project's emphasis on collaboration and innovative solutions in the construction and design of cultural spaces. The unique nature of the Medicine Galleries Project allows for potential growth in contracts that engage with historical and educational aspects of medicine, appealing to businesses seeking to expand their portfolio in the cultural heritage sector.

Notice Title

Medicine Galleries Project - QS and CDM-C

Notice Description

The Wellcome Collection, held by the Science Museum, is the most significant medical collection in the world. Through the Medicine Gallery capital project, the Museum's vision is to create a unique space for the understanding of medicine, providing the world's foremost celebration of the history of medicine and medical research and engaging large audiences - national and international - with the social, political and historical contexts of biomedical science. The Museum is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor and CDM Coordinator to create the groundbreaking suite of new, high end Medicine Galleries at the Science Museum to support the realisation of the vision outlined above. These landmark galleries will use well considered design, intelligent interactive displays and engaging participative experiences to reveal personal stories about how our lives have been transformed by changes in medicine and health over the last 400 years. The new Medicine Galleries will combine the sophistication of the world's greatest art galleries with the Science Museum's expertise in contemporary science interpretation to deliver beautiful, collections-focused experiences that explore medicine as a major scientific and cultural force. The Medicine Galleries project is part of the Science Museum's Masterplan. The Quantity Surveyor and CDM Coordinator appointment on this project may be extended to cover some or all of the other Phase 1 Masterplan projects.
