Notice Title

PHE Health Screener Qualification Assessor Training

Notice Description

The Health Screener Qualification is the initial training for all new NHS screeners delivering the PHE-led Newborn Hearing, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and Diabetic Eye screening programmes. The Diploma in Health Screening (the diploma) was rolled out nationally in April 2016. It is a work-based qualification and is assessed locally by suitably experienced and trained assessors. PHE, in collaboration with Health Education England, awarding organisations and stakeholders, developed the competencies and award pathways and supported roll out and initial training of assessors. The role of assessor is new to many staff now required to assess as part of the diploma and a sustainable training programme is required to ensure the quality and consistency of assessment and ultimately the quality of care given by screeners. From subsequent meetings with stakeholders it was agreed that a sustainable and accessible training package for assessors that can demonstrate the journey of the learner and demonstrate excellent assessor practice would meet the user need and ensure continued support and development. PHE now have a full understanding of their requirements, costs and timescales and are looking to procure the required services.
