Summary of the contracting process

The Department of Health and Social Care (T&T) is seeking suppliers for the "Supply of Wastewater Biobanking Facilities." This contract falls under the laboratory services industry category and is based in the United Kingdom, specifically at a delivery address in London (SW1H 0EU). The procurement process is currently in the Award stage, with the contract period commencing on 1st June 2021 and concluding on 31st May 2022. The total contract value is £16,521, and the procurement method used was a direct single tender action, given that it falls below the financial threshold. The tender period officially ended on 31st May 2021.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in laboratory services, particularly those specialising in environmental testing and biobanking solutions. Companies that can provide short-term storage and management for wastewater and RNA samples would be well-positioned to compete for future similar contracts. Given that the Department of Health and Social Care is the contracting authority, businesses that already have partnerships or are looking to engage with governmental health entities may find this an advantageous opportunity for growth and expansion in their service offerings.

Notice Title

Supply of Wastewater Biobanking Facilities

Notice Description

Via the MOU between DHSC and DEFRA, the University of Bangor has been undertaking R&D work associated with wastewater testing, as part of this R&D they have been receiving wastewater samples for testing. There is a requirement to hold samples in storage and Bangor has been providing this storage for samples it has received (both wastewater and RNA). The contract between Bangor and DEFRA is due to come to an end on 31st May 2021. EMHP are seeking a long-term biobank solution for wastewater and RNA samples - this may come via a procurement exercise, be provided under an MOU with the EA or the samples may be stored at the wastewater Centre of Excellence. Whilst these strategic decisions are made it is necessary to secure short term storage space. Bangor have advised that they are able to continue to store samples at their facilities for a period of six months.
