Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process is initiated by UK Research and Innovation, focusing on the design of a prototype for a superconducting main magnet coil under the title "GB-Didcot: UKRI-1705 FFA Main Magnet Coil Prototype Design *Duplicated*". This tender falls under the research and development services category and is located in the South East region of the United Kingdom. Currently in the Tender stage, the submission deadline for bids is set for 22nd October 2021, and the contract period will commence on 1st November 2021, lasting until 31st March 2022. The procurement method employed is an open procedure, with a total contract value of £100,000, where the minimum value is £50,000.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses interested in research and development services, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) which are encouraged to compete. Firms with expertise in magnet technology, design engineering, and manufacturing processes would be well-suited to engage in this project. Participating in this procurement could enhance capabilities and establish a foothold within the high-demand areas of superconducting technology, potentially leading to future contracts associated with the ongoing development of the ISIS II project.

Notice Title

GB-Didcot: UKRI-1705 FFA Main Magnet Coil Prototype Design *Duplicated*

Notice Description

The main aim of this tender exercise is to begin to validate the feasibility of the design and manufacture of a super conducting main magnet coil that is to be used in the FETS-vFFA ring which in turn will be used to assess the feasibility of using an vFFA for the ISIS II project. In order to achieve this aim we plan to design and manufacture a normal conducting coil that replicates the geometric complexity and manufacturing requirements of the super conducting coil. This initial tender exercise is for the design phase of the normal conducting coil only with tender exercises for the manufacture of 2 complete normal conducting coils to follow in the next financial year. The final normal conducting coil will need to be powered and the resulting field measured. The objectives for the design of the normal conducting coil are; -To mitigate the risk associated with the manufacture of any potential ISIS II super conducting FFA magnets -Increase ISIS expertise and knowledge in preparation for a super conducting magnet design -Achieve a scaling field -Achieve a field quality over a large distance Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement. For more information about this opportunity, please visit the Delta eSourcing portal at: https://ukri.delta-esourcing.com/tenders/UK-GB-Didcot:-UKRI-1705-FFA-Main-Magnet-Coil-Prototype-Design/T5CJ48Z465
