Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) is conducting a procurement process for the "Cheshire Meres Catchment Walkovers" project, aimed at addressing the unfavourable condition of several meres in Cheshire, classified as Sites of Special Scientific Interest. This tender falls under the environmental services category and is currently in the award stage, having been completed on 26th September 2016. The contract, valued at £10,787.25, is set to commence on 3rd October 2016 and conclude on 3rd March 2017. In order to participate, businesses needed to register on the Bravo e-tendering platform, with the application period having ended on 26th August 2016.

This tender presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) in the environmental services sector, especially those involved in marine research and data collection services. Companies with expertise in conducting ecological surveys, water quality assessments, and environmental consultancy would be particularly well-suited to engage in future bids related to the improvement of the Cheshire meres and similar conservation projects.

Notice Title

Cheshire Meres Catchment Walkovers

Notice Description

Bagmere, Chapel Mere, Hatch Mere, Oak Mere and Quoisley Meres all located within Cheshire, and are part of the internationally important Midland Meres and Mosses. All are designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Ramsar sites and Oak Mere is also Special Area of Conservation (SAC), and are considered to be in unfavourable condition. All of the listed Cheshire meres are failing their water quality objectives for SSSI favourable condition status, therefore Natural England have proposed a programme of actions to improve the Cheshire mere's conservation and Water Framework Directive (WFD) status. One of these actions is to carry out a catchment walkover survey of the inflows into the meres to understand sources of nutrients, fine sediments and other pollutants. Additional information: Please note that Defra procurement uses e-tendering, provided by Bravosolutions. In order to access the Bravo system you will need to be registered.
