Summary of the contracting process

Nottingham City Council, acting through the Midlands Net Zero Hub and sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, has initiated a tender process titled "(CPU 7080) Midlands Nuclear Siting and Skills Studies" for research and development consultancy services. This tender is divided into two work packages: one for a Midlands-wide siting study for potential nuclear sites, with a budget of £65,000, and another for a Midlands-wide nuclear skills study, with a budget of £35,000. The procurement is in the Tender stage, with the tender period closing on the 2nd of September 2024 and the contracts starting on the 16th of September 2024, running until the 31st of March 2025. The procurement method is via competitive quotation (below threshold) and is particularly focused on services within the industry categories of nuclear fuels, analysis services, site investigation, and environmental engineering consultancy services.

The tender provides an excellent business growth opportunity for consultancies specialising in nuclear energy, environmental engineering, and skills development within the energy sector. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs) are particularly encouraged to apply, as the procurement is suitable for these types of organisations. By participating in this tender, businesses can showcase their expertise in nuclear siting and skills studies, potentially positioning themselves as key contributors to the Midlands' net-zero ambitions and the future development of nuclear energy infrastructure. The total funding of £100,000 provides significant financial incentives, and businesses can either apply for one or both work packages based on their expertise and capacity.
