Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves Northern Gas Networks Limited, which is seeking contractors for the "Extension/Variation - Contract for the Provision of Emergency Pipeline Services and planned works." This tender falls under the services industry category, specifically focusing on pipeline-inspection services, and is located within several regions of the UK, including the UKC, UKD1, and UKE. The procurement stage is currently at the award phase, with the contract signed on 19th January 2021 for an amount of £660,669. This limited procurement method was chosen due to the mandated need for these specialised emergency services as outlined by Ofgem, citing a lack of competition for technical reasons.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in emergency services, pipeline maintenance, and inspection. Companies that specialise in non-steel and steel pipework, emergency response capabilities, and related training and auditing services would be well-suited to compete. With the urgent nature of these services being provided year-round, there is potential for ongoing contracts and partnerships for suppliers that can meet the stringent requirements outlined in the tender.
