Summary of the contracting process

The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) has completed the procurement process for the "Contract for the Provision of an Access Control system upgrade including maintenance and associated services at V&A sites." This contract, categorised under goods and specifically related to security software packages, was conducted through a selective procurement method using a restricted procedure. The project involved upgrading the existing Access Control System at the museum's South Kensington site in London, which included careful planning and integration of systems across multiple locations. The contract was awarded to ATEC Security Ltd on 9th March 2021, with a total contract value of £139,053.50.

This tender represents a substantial opportunity for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specialising in security systems, engineering works for security installations, and associated maintenance services. Given the emphasis on quality and project management due to the complexities of working within a public, Grade 1 listed building, businesses with relevant experience and capabilities in both installation and ongoing support will find this a fitting opportunity. Moreover, the option to extend the maintenance agreement for an additional four years may further attract firms looking to establish a longer-term partnership with a prestigious institution like the V&A.

Notice Title

Contract for the Provision of an Access Control system upgrade including maintenance and associated services at V&A sites

Notice Description

The Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum is planning to replace key components of its Access Control System (ACS) which is currently installed within its South Kensington site in London. The existing system also interfaces with other remote V&A sites. The small amount of equipment installed in these locations will also need to be interconnected via the organisation's data network. The Access Control System upgrade project will primarily involve the replacement of the software application, door controllers and input/output controllers. All ancillary equipment, including power supplies, are to be retained. The project will require very careful planning, high-quality Project Management and a flexible and adaptable approach given the challenges associated with installation works within a public, Grade 1 listed building.
