Summary of the contracting process

Kirklees Council is planning a tender process for future food procurements, which will include supplies such as bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, ready-made sandwiches, and grocery items. The contracting authority, located in Huddersfield, UK, aims to enhance its procurement strategy by integrating Social Value into the award criteria alongside quality and price. The planned market engagement session is scheduled for 4 May 2021, which will provide suppliers with details on upcoming opportunities, with contract values ranging from £352,000 to £3.1 million and their respective start dates anticipated from October 2021 to April 2022.

This procurement initiative presents significant business growth opportunities, particularly for suppliers specialising in food products and services. Businesses well-suited to compete will include those with capabilities in supplying various food categories, including bakery items, fresh produce, and groceries. Participation in the market engagement event, while optional, could be beneficial for suppliers to gain insights into the Council's requirements regarding Social Value, which will be critical for successful bidding in the forthcoming tenders.
