Notice Description

Brighter Futures for Children's (BFfC) drive is to improve the quality of services and to ensure that pupils living in Reading have access to the services they need.To help fulfil this commitment BFfC requires alternative provision (AP) services that meet the required standard and statutory regulations as detailed in this Specification.BFfC addresses the needs of vulnerable pupils across the continuum of provision from mainstream school through to AP or special school placements according to assessed needs. Most secondary schools, academies and special schools in Reading purchase part-time Alternative Provision from a wide range of Providers. In order to support schools with this commissioning activity and ensure a consistent approach to commissioning, BFfC on behalf of the Reading Schools, has carried out a Provider approval process in order to publish a Directory of Approved Providers.

Lot Information

Lot 1: Full-Time Educational Provision

Education provision offered to a Service User outside of the school setting for 25 hours a week or more. Provision should be age-appropriate outcomes focussed and cover a broad curriculum to achieve accredited qualifications. This provision could be to support one Service User or a group (maximum group size is 8). The Provider should be registered as an independent or independent non maintained school if providing fulltime education to five or more Service Users of statutory school age or one Service User who is a Child Looked After and/or has an EHCP. The provider shall follow a trauma informed approach to help Service Users understand and develop their emotional responses and self-regulation.

Renewal: Extension option up to a further 24 months

Lot 2: Part-Time Educational Provision

Educational provision that is delivered outside of the school setting to enhance the school curriculum and/or a vocational placement. Provision should be age-appropriate and lead to improved attainment and progress including the achievement of accredited qualifications, academic and wider learning outcomes and/or vocational skills development. Service Users will remain registered at their current school. Part time hours are flexible to meet the needs of the child/young person, i.e. half a day or full day once or twice a week. This provision could be to support one Service User or a group. The Provider shall follow a trauma informed approach to help Service Users understand and develop their emotional regulation.The hours shall not be more than 15 Hours over three days.

Renewal: Extension for up to 24 months

Lot 3: Tutoring

Tutoring provision delivered by experienced tutors outside of the school setting to support the school curriculum and/or the specific needs of a Service User. Programmes are usually bespoke and delivered to individuals or a small group of a maximum of 6 Service Users.

Renewal: Extension up to 24 months

Lot 4: On line Learning

To support of Lot 2 and 3 but may also be specific to an individual to support or improve the child's understanding of their behavioural responses, support the school curriculum and/or specific needs of a Service User.

Renewal: Extension up to 24 months

Lot 5: Off-site support, mentoring and coaching

This describes bespoke and personalised programmes of proactive support, mentoring and/or coaching, which will be offered to Service Users to enhance their learning experience and engagement and is delivered away from the school site. This could include physical activities or therapeutic interventions. This will support or improve the child's understanding of their behavioural responses, attendance, and the re-integration of Service Users into mainstream schools. This provision could be to support one Service User or a group. The hours are flexible depending on the intervention.

Renewal: Extension of up to 24 months

Lot 6: On-site support, mentoring and coaching

Predominantly for primary age Service Users such as, but not exclusively, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Mentoring delivered on the school site.These interventions may be bespoke and personalised programmes which are offered to Service Users to support their access to the curriculum.

Renewal: Extension up to 24 months

Lot 7: Full or Part-Time Alternative Provision for Post 16 Students

Educational provision that is delivered outside of a school/ college setting to enhance the curriculum and/or a vocational placement. Provision should be age-appropriate and lead to improved attainment and progress including the achievement of accredited qualifications, academic and wider learning outcomes and/or vocational skills development. Service Users will remain registered at their current school. Hours are flexible to meet the needs of the child/young person, i.e. half a day or full day once or twice a week. This provision could be to support one Service User or a group.The Company reserves the right to add additional Service Categories over the operating period to allow for new innovations and services to be provided.
