Lot 1: Grit & Screenings As a water and wastewater service provider, United Utilities has multiple streams of waste in which it is responsible for the efficient disposal of, Grit and Screenings forms one of those waste streams. The Company promotes minimal waste to landfill and has a 98% landfill avoidance target, therefore aims to re-use or recycle all of its waste streams where at all possible. The current number of collections/ movements for grit and screenings averages between 380 - 400 per month. Stretford WwTW, M42 8RH* Estimated spend PS1.6M per annum Grit With the exception of the Cumbria region, the Company's grit is collected from Wastewater sites by the suppliers and transported to one of two UUW sites listed above, where the grit is tipped onto designated areas within the site's. The company then undertakes the services of windrowing, tromelling and transporting the grit to restoration sites. At present within the Cumbria region, Grit is taken to Landfill due to the travel costs of transporting the grit from the Cumbria region to the 3 grit sites. However the company is constantly striving to improve compliance performance and as part of this tender process will be looking for the most commercially sustainable route for the disposal/recycling of Grit within the Cumbria area. Screenings Sludge Screenings are currently collected from Wastewater sites by the suppliers and transported to landfill where they are disposed of. The Company and its incumbent suppliers continually review any alternative recycling options for screenings, however at present this waste stream continues to be taken to landfill until a commercially sustainable alternative can be found. Scope of Requirements The Company is reviewing the market to gain knowledge of suppliers who are able to provide the following Services: * The provision of containers as detailed in table (a) above on each of the Companies sites * Container maintenance and replacement * Waste collection within 24 hours of receipt of request * Transportation * Collection * Disposal/ Recycling * Self Maintained Documentation for auditing purposes * Weekly log reporting * Clear accessible audit trails Additional information: This PIN is a request for information only at this stage. A future procurement is planned and we estimate the Contract Notice will be published 2022

The company however is looking for the most commercially advantageous and sustainable way of recycling of its waste and the bidders should ensure that is taken into consideration when submitting their proposal. The Company currently operates both a scheduled and call off waste collection service, the bins and smaller containers are generally operated on a scheduled collection service with the skips and larger containers operating on a calling off service as and when required. The current number of general waste containers collected on a scheduled service averages at 230 per month, however can estimate anything between 40 - 100 a week. The current number of call off requests for general waste containers averages at 100 per week, however the actual number of call off requests can fluctuate between 40 - 120 per week dependent upon site activity and weather conditions Waste streams include: * All general waste * Food waste * Recyclable mixed waste such as, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, plastic packaging, food cans, glass and other mixed recyclable general products.
