Summary of the contracting process

Suffolk County Council is planning a procurement process for the collection, treatment, and disposal of food waste, with the aim to appoint a service provider. This initiative falls under the 'services' category, specifically classified as 'refuse and waste related services'. The procurement is scheduled to commence later in 2022 with key stakeholder engagement, including the related Suffolk Waste Partnership councils. A pre-market engagement exercise has been announced, with responses to a questionnaire due by 5th February 2022, and potential one-on-one discussions taking place between 7th and 18th February 2022. This procurement serves to facilitate operations compliant with the Environment Act (2021) and aims for implementation by 31st March 2025.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in waste management and environmental services, particularly those capable of processing municipal food waste. Companies that can demonstrate their ability to handle waste collection and disposal efficiently, operate processing facilities by the stipulated deadline, and are able to provide insights on waste management technologies and practices would be well-positioned to compete. Engaging in this tender could help businesses expand their market reach within the growing sector of sustainable waste management solutions.
