Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence recently updated the tender process for the "Defence Marine Services - Supply and Maintenance of Authority Moorings, Markers and Targets," a service contract involving marine services across the UK, including Gibraltar and Cyprus, and extending to the Ascension and Falkland Islands. The procurement falls under the services category with the contract's competitive procedure including negotiation. Key procurement amendments were last noted on 9th January 2026, with the winning supplier already identified as Briggs Marine Contractors Limited. This award was confirmed on 23rd May 2025, with a contract value of approximately £182 million and a contract duration of 96 months, further indicating a significant and long-term commitment from the Ministry of Defence, headquartered in Portsmouth, UK.

This tender provides substantial opportunities for businesses in marine services, particularly those specialising in mooring maintenance and marine equipment supply. Companies capable of managing complex logistical operations, vessel management, and compliance with mooring legislation and safety standards would find this contract beneficial for business expansion. Moreover, given the contract's extensive territorial coverage and the necessity for technical certifications such as ISO standards and UK MCA compliance, enterprises well-versed in international marine operations are positioned advantageously. Subcontracting opportunities and the need for suitable storage facilities for marine components could extend potential business growth to ancillary sectors such as logistics, warehousing, and specialised training providers.
