Summary of the contracting process

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is currently in the planning stage for the UKRI-2255 Direct Wire Solar Power Purchase Agreement, aimed at supplying electricity through solar power for the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). This procurement project, classified under the solar energy industry category, is set to take place at STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Harwell, Oxfordshire. A virtual supplier event is scheduled for Thursday, 21st July 2022, at 13:30 BST, allowing potential bidders to engage and clarify any queries. Interested parties must register by 14:00 BST on Wednesday, 20th July 2022, to participate in this event.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in solar energy solutions, particularly those capable of managing the end-to-end process of solar project implementation, including securing land and obtaining planning permissions. With an estimated contract value of up to £50 million over a potential term of 25 years, firms with demonstrable expertise in solar power development within a 5km radius of Harwell would be particularly well-positioned to compete for this contract. Engaging in this procurement process could lead to substantial growth in the renewable energy sector, particularly for companies offering innovative and cost-effective energy solutions.
