Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process titled "Raizer Chairs for Care Homes" is facilitated by Central Bedfordshire Council, serving as the lead authority on behalf of the Bedfordshire, Luton & Milton Keynes Integrated Care System. This project involves the procurement of up to 180 Raizer chairs, classified under lifting equipment for the healthcare sector (CPV code: 33192600). The contract is currently at the Award stage, having been signed on 22nd April 2022, with a total value of approximately £450,000. The initial funding for the first phase is around £148,000, with delivery set for regions under "UKH25". This procurement was conducted through a limited method without prior publication of a call for competition.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses operating in the healthcare equipment and supply sector, particularly those that can provide innovative lifting equipment like the Raizer chair. Given the unique features and requirements noted in the tender, suppliers who offer training and support services alongside the equipment will have a competitive advantage. Companies involved in the emergency healthcare and mobility solutions industry, especially those with capabilities similar to Felgains Ltd, the current supplier, should consider this opportunity to expand their market presence in care homes across Bedfordshire and beyond.

Notice Title

Raizer Chairs for Care Homes

Notice Description

To procure 180 Raizer chairs into care homes on behalf of the Bedfordshire, Luton & Milton Keynes Integrated Care System. Central Bedfordshire Council is the lead authority for the BLMK Raiser Chair Project, which has been piloted in care settings across ICS. The project will contribute to a reduction in healthcare requirements, particularly admission to hospital due to falls.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The Raizer 2 Lifting Chair is an emergency lifting chair that facilitates a fast and safe solution to get people who have fallen back on their feet. It can be operated single and is an ideal solution for transferring someone who has fallen to a sitting or standing position. It is quiet and causes less distress to frail older people, often with dementia who can be disturbed by a noisy inflatable option. which is Faster, stronger, and more stable than traditional inflatable lifting cushions. It has been piloted in a number of care homes across the ICS and NHS England has provided the funding to roll it out to more homes. The wider roll out of Raizer Chairs across the ICS should reduce the percentage of long lies per fall, reduce the need for ambulance call outs and potentially fewer admissions to hospitals. The use of Raizer Chairs is typically reported to deliver 55% fewer falls, 20% fewer hospital admissions and 40% savings in staff time. The Raizer chair is manufactured in Denmark with two distributors in the UK. Felgains are the only suppliers in the south of the United Kingdom. The initial phase is for a value of approximately PS148,000. With full roll-out the final value could be up to a maximum of PS450,000.

Procurement Information

The Raizer chair is manufactured in Denmark with two distributors in the UK. Felgains are the only suppliers in the south of the United Kingdom. The only other procurement option would be through the NHS Supply Chain as a direct purchase, however this approach comes at a higher cost and does not include the broader package of training which will be delivered to the Care Homes by Felgains. Training and support would need to be procured separately and an additional cost. NHS Supply Chain would procure from Felgains.
