Summary of the contracting process

The University of Aberdeen has recently completed a tender process for window cleaning services comprising both internal and external cleaning, essential due to the urban location of its campuses and environmental factors such as air pollution and proximity to the sea. The procurement was conducted under the open procedure and involved an award worth £212,000. The tender was officially initiated on 18th July 2022, with the contract awarded to the highest-ranked bidder, reflecting the strategic need for sustained cleaning services across approximately 50 academic buildings and numerous entrances in Aberdeen, Inverurie, and Newburgh.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in cleaning services, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with capabilities in tailored cleaning solutions and emergency response services. Companies that can demonstrate compliance with health and safety standards and have a proven track record in service delivery and contract management will be particularly well-positioned to compete. The strategic framework agreement allows the awarded contractors to meet ongoing cleaning demands without the need for further mini-competitions, thus providing a stable workload for successful suppliers.
