Summary of the contracting process

The Worcestershire County Council and the County of Herefordshire District Council jointly awarded the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Waste Management Contract. The contract, valued at £1,176,000,000, was initially signed in December 1998 and involves refuse disposal and treatment services in the UK. The contract includes a permitted modification extending the contract by 5 years, alternative waste disposal obligations, and additional waste processing requirements to meet environmental targets. The procurement method was a limited award procedure without prior publication, involving Mercia Waste Management Limited as the active supplier.

This tender for waste management services provides opportunities for businesses specialising in refuse disposal, recycling services, and waste management. Companies with expertise in municipal waste processing and facility operation within Herefordshire and Worcestershire would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The contract, awarded by the local authorities, offers a substantial long-term engagement in the region and presents a chance for suppliers to contribute to sustainable waste management practices in the area.
