Summary of the contracting process

The UK Research & Innovation has issued a tender for the procurement of precision tools for the assembly of ATLAS Inner Tracker Modules. This tender falls under the main procurement category of goods and is in the active status. The tender, titled "UKRI-3102 Precision Tools for the Assembly of ATLAS Inner Tracker Modules," is part of a project within the ATLAS experiment at CERN. The contracting process is open for economic operators, especially SMEs, and aims to select tenderers based on specified criteria. The tender, which involves precision manufacturing of tools, has been cancelled.

This procurement process by UK Research & Innovation presents an opportunity for businesses involved in precision tool manufacturing for scientific projects. The organisation is part of the construction of a tracker for a particle physics experiment and requires tools with specific manufacturing and alignment criteria. Businesses in the machinery industry, especially those specialised in special-purpose machine tools, would be well-suited to compete in this tender. The deadline for submission was missed by the suppliers, resulting in the cancellation of the tender process.

Notice Title

UKRI-3102 Precision Tools for the Assembly of ATLAS Inner Tracker Modules

Notice Description

ATLAS is a particle physics experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN (www.atlas.ch). The ATLAS detector is due to be upgraded and the ATLAS group at the UKRI is part of the construction of a new silicon strip tracker at the heart of the upgraded detector. This project is part of a worldwide collaboration involving more than 3000 scientists from 174 institutions. The tracker is made up of silicon strip sensor modules which are arranged in a precise series of expanding shells around a central beamline. Each module is assembled in a series of manual assembly steps, which are homogenised throughout several production sites across the UK. A high level of precision is required to provide the alignment required for the intended precision tracking within the detector.
