Summary of the contracting process

The NHSS Bristol, North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (BNSSG), along with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP), has recently awarded a contract for a men's crisis house in Bristol. The contract awarded to Rethink Mental Illness is for a period of 7 years, with an option to extend for an additional 2 years. The service, which involves the provision of an 8-10 bedded non-clinical crisis house for men and trans men aged 18 and above, is valued at £520,000 annually, with an extra £100,000 allocated for setup costs in the first year, amounting to a total potential value of £4.78 million over the full 9-year term. This contract falls under the "Health services" industry category and forms part of the BNSSG crisis pathway. The procurement was managed through an open procedure by NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit (SCW) on behalf of the Commissioners, under the Light Touch Regime of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses specialising in mental health services, particularly those capable of working with individuals experiencing mental health crises. Potential bidders should demonstrate their ability to collaborate closely with clinical services and other system partners to ensure seamless support within the BNSSG acute and crisis pathway. Moreover, the procurement process places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, co-production, and the integration of lived experience in service design and delivery. Organisations with a proven track record in delivering inclusive mental health services and who can address inequalities and improve outcomes will find this tender particularly aligned with their expertise. Additionally, the partnership with AWP crisis and community teams will require effective coordination and collaborative skills to support individuals in crisis and facilitate their transition from inpatient care to community settings. Overall, this contract represents a substantial opportunity for suitable businesses to expand their service offerings and contribute to the mental health support framework in the Bristol and surrounding areas.
