Summary of the contracting process

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) recently awarded a contract for the supply of recombinant proteins to LIONEX GmbH. The procurement process was completed under a limited procurement method, specifically an award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition. The contract involves the production and supply of nine novel recombinant proteins to APHA's facility in Weybridge, UK.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses involved in the production and supply of bio-research materials, particularly those experienced in the cloning, expression, and purification of recombinant proteins. The requirement for novel proteins for research purposes indicates a need for suppliers with expertise in creating innovative biological products. Businesses with a focus on producing high-quality bio-research materials and a commitment to meeting strict quality standards, such as ISO 90001:2015, are well-suited to compete in this tender process.

Notice Title

Supply of Recombinant Proteins to APHA

Notice Description

Supply of Recombinant Proteins to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).

Lot Information

Lot 1

The requirement is for production and supply of nine (9) novel recombinant proteins in a polyhistidine tags ("His-tags") presentation (to include cloning, expression and purification).

Procurement Information

This product is required purely for research purposes. This procurement aims to provide a small quantity of the final products (recombinant proteins, 2mg/ml in a purified state) that can be used to validate previously generated data and allow further development of serological assays. <br/><br/>An analysis of the five requirements of the Frascati guidelines have been completed and all five criteria are met for this requirement:<br/>- Novel: These required products are novel proteins that have not been previously produced or made available commercially. <br/>- Creative: Fragments identified in the discovery phase have been identified for production as full chain recombinant proteins. This is the first time these have been identified for any species.<br/>- Uncertainty of outcome: Due to the novel nature of the requirement, there is a possibility that the Supplier will not be able to produce one / more of these proteins. The production of the proteins will be challenging as there may be unknown factors that could cause the proteins to be unstable.<br/>- Systematic: The project is conducted under quality standard ISO 90001:2015. This standard requires documentation of all work, including obtaining data sheets of the procured proteins. <br/>- Transferrable: Knowledge will be fully transferable in the future and would allow an alternative supplier to re-produce the results.
