Summary of the contracting process

NHS England is facilitating a public procurement process for the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme, a health services initiative aimed at enhancing the quality and cost-effectiveness of vascular screening for eligible men in London and parts of Surrey. Covering an eligible population of approximately 46,000 men, the programme will start on 1st April 2025 and potentially run until 31st March 2032 if the optional extension is utilised. The procurement process, which falls under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023, excludes the application of the Public Contract Regulations 2015. The programme is in the award stage after undergoing a tender process managed as an open procedure.

This tender presents significant business opportunities, especially for organisations in the health services sector with expertise in diagnostic and treatment services for vascular conditions. It is particularly suited for companies with experience in community-based health screening and coordination with local health authorities across multiple regions. With a substantial contract value of £17.5 million and a focus on delivering a high-quality and sustainable service, participating businesses have the chance to expand their service delivery capabilities and strengthen their presence in public health provision in the UK market. Companies that can demonstrate alignment with the NHS's economic and technical selection criteria will be well-placed to engage in this competitive procurement process.
