Summary of the contracting process

NHS Supply Chain has initiated a tender process to establish a Framework Agreement for the supply and maintenance of surgical instruments under the title "Surgical Instruments". This procurement exercise, classified under CPV code 33169000 for surgical instruments, invites suppliers to provide single-use and reusable surgical instruments, scalpel blades and handles, blade removers, and services for repair, maintenance, and recycling of surgical instruments. The tender is currently in the active stage with a submission deadline on 10th February 2025, and an anticipated start date for contracts on 5th August 2025. The estimated value of the contract is £111,000,000 over a four-year period, with initial purchases expected to total approximately £27,750,000 in the first year.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in medical and surgical equipment, particularly those with expertise in manufacturing, maintaining, and recycling surgical instruments. The contract includes five lots, allowing suppliers to bid for multiple lots, fostering competition and potential business growth. NHS Supply Chain will consider factors such as service quality, customer service, social value, and cost in the awarding process. Businesses with robust supply chain management, quality assurance certifications (e.g., ISO 9001:2015), and a focus on sustainable and socially responsible practices will be well-positioned to compete. In addition, successful suppliers will have the opportunity to offer bulk purchasing discounts and value-added services, enhancing their market presence and driving further growth.
