Summary of the contracting process

The Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to procure a service for the provision of mental health social prescribing, classified under community health services (CPV code 85323000). This initiative aims to support individuals with mental health needs by identifying personal interests, encouraging community engagement, and overcoming barriers to social interaction. The procurement stage is currently in the tender phase, following an intention to award notice under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023. The contract, valued at £90,000, is scheduled to commence on 1st August 2024 and will run until 31st July 2025. The Trust is located in London, UK (postcode NW1 0PE), and the deadline for representations was 19th July 2024.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in mental health and community health services. It is an excellent fit for companies that can deliver innovative solutions to improve holistic wellbeing and community connectivity for individuals with mental health needs. The procurement process did not involve prior publication of a call for competition, favouring a direct award procedure. Businesses with a strong local presence and experience in collaborative and value-driven community health service delivery, such as Mind in Camden, which has been awarded the contract, will have a competitive edge. This opportunity allows eligible providers to enhance their portfolio, expand their service offerings, and contribute positively to the community’s mental health outcomes.

The Key Criteria were assessed based on the original specification set by the clinical team to show what the exact requirements are reviewing requirements within Quality and Innovation, Value, Reducing Health Inequalities and Better Access to Care and Social Value. This allowed a thorough review of the Trust requirements to show the contract can deliver and improve on all Key Criteria. The incumbent supplier has established strong connections within the local community across Camden, making a positive impact on reduction of service users attending GP/Acute Hospital and A&E admissions. The KPI's have been met by the supplier throughout the contract, delivering positive results to enhance service user experience helping to reduce stressors on already over subscribed urgent services. the Trust has seen an improvement across the Camden area. The team assessed how the incumbent would deliver the new requirement to continue to achieve improved targets and how the supplier can positively impact the Trust. The same supplier will be able to fulfil the requirement stipulated delivering on value and improved access to care for support to service users."
