Summary of the contracting process

The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has awarded a contract for Winter Maintenance Services spanning from 2025 to 2030. The contract, valued at £600,000, was procured through Lot 3 of the NHS Shared Business Services Framework specifically for snow-clearing services. The procurement method utilised was an open procedure. The contracting authority, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, is located at their City Campus in Nottingham. The contract involves winter maintenance activities, including snow clearance and gritting services at the Trust's sites to ensure safe access during adverse weather conditions. The contract period begins on 1st November 2025 and includes the possibility of a four-year extension in annual increments following the initial year.

This procurement presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in grounds and winter maintenance. Cropper Grounds Maintenance Ltd, an SME, has been awarded this contract, demonstrating that companies of similar scale and expertise can successfully secure such contracts. Businesses with capabilities in providing 24/7 responsive services to adverse weather, and maintaining clear access routes can leverage this to create sustainable growth opportunities. The procurement criteria highlight not only technical competency but also emphasize social value, allowing businesses with a strong focus on these areas to stand out and excel. Additionally, with potential contract value fluctuations contingent on weather changes, there is room for increased business as service demand adjusts.
