Summary of the contracting process

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is currently in the planning stage of the procurement process for the "AGHS Refactor – Decommissioning Plan" project. This project, classified under engineering services (CPV code 71300000), aims to upskill the UK industry in designing, modifying, and operating tritium plans for fusion through the exhaustive utilisation of the UK supply chain. The project will focus on the decommissioning of specific AGHS sub-systems, including cryogenic-forevacuum systems and buffer tanks. Located in Abingdon, region UKJ14, the initial phase involves a Request for Information (RFI), with future notices anticipated around 22nd November 2024.

This tender presents significant opportunities for engineering, energy, and chemical sector businesses, especially those with expertise in hazardous material handling and experience in decommissioning nuclear or fusion-related installations. Contractors are expected to deliver conceptual decommissioning studies, hazard identification with an emphasis on safe tritium material handling, cost and schedule estimation, and concept design reviews. Businesses with robust engineering capabilities and a track record in complex project management and execution in the energy sector are well-suited to these requirements, positioning themselves for substantial growth and industry recognition by engaging in this high-profile decommissioning project.
