Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for "Telecoms and Data Cabling Services for the North East Universities" is organised by the North Eastern Universities Purchasing Consortium (NEUPC Ltd), based in Leeds, UK. This procurement falls under the industry category of Communications Infrastructure and covers regions in the North East of England, encompassing Universities such as Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland, and Teesside, along with NCG. The tender, initiated on 30th September 2024, follows an open procedure aimed at establishing a framework agreement for the provision of telecoms and data cabling services including small building installations, refurbishments, repairs, maintenance, and improvements on university premises. The framework agreement is divided into two lots (Excel and Connectix), and a maximum of five contractors will be appointed per lot. The total contract value is estimated at £5,000,000 GBP. The tender submission period concludes on 30th October 2024, with the award period beginning immediately thereafter.

This tender presents substantial business growth opportunities for companies specialising in telecommunications infrastructure, particularly those capable of handling projects ranging from small installations to more extensive refurbishments and repairs. Businesses equipped with the necessary accreditations for the specified manufacturers, Excel and Connectix, stand a good chance of being awarded call-off contracts. The framework allows for potential part-funding from external sources such as the European Union, making it a lucrative proposition for SMEs looking to expand their market presence and leverage EU-funded projects. With NEUPC placing significant emphasis on quality (60%) alongside cost considerations (40%), companies with proven excellence in delivering high-quality communications infrastructure services will be well-suited to compete.
