Summary of the contracting process

Northern Gas Networks Limited, based in Leeds, UK, has awarded multiple contracts to Goodwin International Ltd for the provision of Axial Control Valves in various UK regions including UKC, UKD, and UKE. The procurement falls under the industry category of miscellaneous general and special-purpose machinery. Key stages of the procurement process include tender initiation, contract award updates, and contract execution updates. Recent contracts were signed on 11th March 2025 and 7th November 2024, with project durations varying from 240 to 270 days. Notably, an award update occurred on 3rd September 2024 with a contract value of £364,404. The procurement method was limited, utilising awards without prior publication due to extreme urgency ensuring the serviceability of critical assets.

This tender offers substantial opportunities for businesses involved in the manufacture and supply of specialised machinery, particularly those focusing on valves and related components. Companies looking to expand their market presence in the UK would benefit from competing as suppliers for future projects similar to this. Northern Gas Networks’ decision to source these products from alternative suppliers showcases the demand for innovation and competitive pricing, proving beneficial for businesses that can present viable, cost-effective alternatives. Large enterprises like Goodwin International Ltd with a solid track record in meeting urgent delivery and technical specifications would be ideally suited to participate and leverage the potential for future competitive procurement processes.

Notice Title

Axial Control Valves

Notice Description

NGN have typically purchased this type of valve from one organisation solely, for some considerable time as alternative options were not readily available in the marketplace. NGN has now identified an alternative UK source for the supply of this equipment. Although the existing supplier has not been asked to quote in this instance, benchmarking against previous proposals has indicated that these valves are more cost effective and from an engineering / technical perspective provide significant advantages. security of supply. They also have a shorter lead time which in this instance is critical as those in situ are in need of urgent replacement. NGN has therefore made the decision to source these valves from this supplier (Goodwin) to firstly ensure the continued uptime of its strategic asset but also to prove the existence of a viable alternative to the existing solution which will if proven successful, enable competitive as opposed to single sourcing in the future thereby driving value and improved security of supply.
