Summary of the contracting process

NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICB has initiated a procurement process to award a contract for the provision of Low Vision Aid Services under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) regulations. The procurement is classified under the Optician services industry category (CPV code: 85160000) and is intended to support patients with non-complex needs in the UKG24 region. The contract, valued at approximately £3,226, is anticipated to span from 23rd October 2024 to 31st December 2025. Key dates include a standstill period starting from the 10th of October 2024, with representations by providers due by the 22nd of October 2024. The process is already in its award stage, with the publication marking the intention to award the contract, pending formal completion.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses in the optician services sector, particularly those experienced in supporting patients with low vision aids. The existing provider, Prince & Bates Opticians, was deemed suitable for this direct award, indicating a stable and ongoing demand for the type of services offered. Businesses that specialise in similar services and have a track record of providing community-based low vision support could leverage this opportunity for growth. The procurement method utilised, a limited process without prior publication, further underscores the importance of maintaining high standards and continuity in service provision. This tender is particularly beneficial for local SMEs operating within the specified region.
