Summary of the contracting process

NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICB (SSOT ICB) is in the procurement stage of awarding a contract under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) for Tier 3 Community Ophthalmology Services. This service provides timely assessments, triages referrals, treats various eye conditions, and appropriately signposts patients. The procurement involves a direct award process to an existing provider, Community Health & Eyecare Limited. The contract is valued at approximately £1.8 million and is expected to run from 24th October 2024 to 30th September 2025. The publication of the intention to award notice initiated a standstill period ending on 23rd October 2024, during which representations can be made by providers.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses in the healthcare services sector, particularly those specialising in ophthalmology. The procurement method, which bypasses the prior publication of a call for competition, favours existing providers with a proven track record, thus offering limited but significant business growth potential for companies capable of meeting the service requirements. Businesses that already have expertise in delivering similar healthcare services and can demonstrate consistent and high-quality performance would be well-suited to compete for such contracts in future procurement processes.
