Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Birmingham and Solihull ICB has awarded a contract under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) for care home placements to Orbis Education and Care Limited. This award was made without prior publication of a call for competition, in accordance with Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. The contract will run from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2027, providing services classified under the residential health facilities services industry category. The main location for the contract activities is within the UK region UKL21. This decision, marked complete and signed on 8th October 2024, was determined by the NHS Birmingham and Solihull ICB All Age Continuing Healthcare Team with no declarations of interest.

This tender represents a significant business growth opportunity, particularly for large-scale providers of residential health facilities services. Businesses specialising in high-quality care home placements can benefit from this contract, which values patient choice highly, as this is the sole quality criterion mentioned. Although the contract offers no guaranteed activity levels, the flexibility may appeal to businesses capable of scaling their services based on demand. Suppliers already established in healthcare services and with operations in the United Kingdom, especially near the UKL21 region, would be well-positioned to compete and excel in delivering the required services.
