Summary of the contracting process

Essex County Council has announced the formal award of the "Strength and Balance Service" contract, which aims to deliver health and social work services across West Essex, Mid Essex, Southwest Essex, and Southeast Essex. This procurement initiative, managed under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) as set out in the Healthcare Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023, aims to provide expertise for improving muscular strength and balance, particularly targeting the elderly and frail population to reduce fall risks. The contract has been awarded to North East London NHS Foundation Trust as the supplier, and it spans from 1 June 2025 to 31 July 2031, with a total value of £3,248,159. The procurement process has transitioned from planning through to the award phase, with an initial market engagement held in October 2024.

The awarded contract presents significant opportunities for businesses within the health and social care sector, particularly those specialising in elderly care and rehabilitation services. Companies that offer innovative health solutions, value integration, and demonstrate strong service sustainability, social value, and the ability to improve access and reduce health inequalities, would find this tender highly suitable. The open procedure procurement method ensures that all qualified suppliers had the opportunity to compete, reinforcing transparency and competitiveness within the sector. By collaborating with Essex County Council, successful bidders can establish their expertise in managing services that cater to vulnerable populations, potentially leading to further opportunities within the public health sector.
