However, due to unforeseen circumstances the arc21 contract has been delayed, the contract only recently being advertised with a current return date of 6 November 2024. The continuance of the Council's local contract with Irish Waste Services is to facility the transition to the arc21 contract upon its commencement and to ensure service continuity and no disruption to service in the interim. Not having a contract in place will lead to not only reputational damage but will have a negative impact on the Council's statutory obligations to divert waste from landfill and increase recycling as required by The Waste(Circular Economy) (Amendment) Regulations (NI) 2020."
