Summary of the contracting process

NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board has awarded an Alternative Provider Medical Services (APMS) contract for general-practitioner services at Essington Medical Practice in Wolverhampton. The procurement falls under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023, excluding the application of the Procurement Act Regulations 2023. This contract, valued at approximately £1,545,872.70 over its five-year term—from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2030—was awarded using Direct Award Process C, which does not require prior competition. This tender invites opportunities for healthcare providers specialising in primary medical services to contribute to improving access and reducing health inequalities in Essington, a particularly deprived area. It presents a substantial growth opportunity for businesses able to meet high standards of quality, with a focus on patient access and choice. Suitable competitors would include large-scale healthcare providers with expertise in maintaining service delivery and performance quality, potentially benefiting from financial uplifts linked to service performance. Drs Libberton, Ram & Gulati, the current provider, will continue services as they have successfully met past contractual obligations.
