Summary of the contracting process

Reading Borough Council is in the planning stage of a procurement process titled "Accelerated Reform Fund - carer's breaks," aimed at providing respite and recreational activities for carers in Reading. This project, which falls under the category of social work services with accommodation (CPV code 85311000), is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care's Accelerating Reform Fund. Businesses interested in participating must respond by 7 February 2024, as the Prior Information Notice (PIN) will expire on that date. Key considerations for prospective bidders include the ability to offer domiciliary respite services and carer's breaks, ensuring sufficient staffing capacity to provide services promptly, sometimes within 24 hours.

This tender represents an excellent opportunity for businesses in the healthcare and social care sectors, especially those specialising in respite and carers' support services. Firms capable of rapidly mobilising care services and offering comprehensive carer's breaks will find a significant growth opportunity here. The requirement to support both respite care for the cared-for individuals and recreational activities for carers invites participation from well-established care providers with robust operational frameworks. Given the project's innovative nature and its backing by the Accelerating Reform Fund, businesses can not only secure procurement contracts but also contribute to a meaningful improvement in adult social care services in Reading.
