Summary of the contracting process

Tyne and Wear PTE, trading as Nexus, has initiated an open tender process for the provision of emergency (unplanned) Metro replacement bus services under the Transport Act 1985. This procurement, identified as NEX25/14, falls under the services category with the main focus on public road transport services. The contract term extends from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2028. These services will cover sections of the Metro system that may become non-operational due to unforeseen circumstances and may be required to operate at any time during Metro operating hours. The tender submission deadline is set for 24th February 2025 at 12:00 PM, and the tender opening follows shortly at 12:05 PM on the same day. The geographical focus is within the UK, specifically Newcastle upon Tyne.

This tender offers substantial growth opportunities for bus operators, particularly those specialising in public road transport services. The multi-supplier framework agreement allows for up to 999 participants, providing ample opportunity for businesses to secure a position. The evaluation will be based on a cost ranking system, and operators of buses with minimum capacities of 60 and 84, compliant with relevant regulations, are encouraged to apply. Businesses fully compliant with the Public Service Vehicles Access Regulations 2000, the Public Service Vehicles Accessible Information Regulations, and the Equality Act 2010, with a minimum of Euro 5 or Euro 6 engine emission standards, are well-suited to compete. Participation in this tender could ensure consistent work and strengthen market presence in the public transport sector.
