Summary of the contracting process

The Diocese of Ely Multi Academy Trust recently completed a tender process for providing catering services across its schools. This procurement, classified under the CPV code 55524000 for school catering services, followed a selective procurement method through a restricted procedure. The contract, now in the award stage, was signed on 21st July 2025 with Cater Link Limited for a total value of £13,179,068.31 GBP. The service includes managing full daily catering at the Trust's schools, with facilities located in the UKH12 region. The contract was initially open to a tender period concluding on 14th March 2025, with an invitation-to-tender stage towards April 2025. Award criteria focused heavily on quality over price, aligning with legal guidelines under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015.

This contracting process offers significant business opportunities, especially for companies specialising in large-scale catering services tailored for educational institutions. With approximately 6,936 pupils across the Diocese of Ely schools, the contract provides a substantial client base for the service provider, enriching its portfolio and enhancing reputation in the educational services sector. Businesses with experience in managing both in-house and outsourced catering services are particularly well-suited to compete for such opportunities. The framework set by the contract, inclusive of potential extensions up to five years, also provides long-term growth potential, especially appealing to firms that can deliver high-quality service consistently meeting the specified tender criteria.
