Summary of the contracting process

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is planning to award a contract for 'Placenta/Newborn Autopsy Testing Service.' This procurement process falls under the Pathology services category and is located in Middlesbrough at The James Cook University Hospital. The current procurement stage is the Award stage under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023, with a standstill period starting on 11th March 2025. The contract will be awarded to Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH) for two years once the current contract expires on 31st March 2025, following a limited procurement method without prior publication of a call for competition.

This tender offers substantial business growth opportunities specifically for government-registered suppliers capable of conducting sensitive autopsy testing on placentas and newborns. Suppliers in the healthcare sector that specialise in pathology and have a strong record of handling delicate medical services are well-suited to compete. NUTH's existing service level agreement and demonstrated satisfaction among service users highlights the potential for continuity and expansion in niche medical testing services for qualified businesses.
