Summary of the contracting process

Defence Equipment and Support, part of the Ministry of Defence, procured a Close Find Radar capability for the British Army under the SERPENS project. The requirement covers the manufacture, installation, testing and delivery of a radar-based weapon-locating system, together with training, documentation, logistics support, in-service support and associated services. The work is a defence goods requirement involving radar equipment and its integration into the Army’s operational capability. Delivery is across the United Kingdom. The scope also includes the technical and support activities needed to provide and sustain the complete capability, rather than supplying radar equipment alone. The procurement is complete and awarded following an open competitive flexible procedure. SRC UK Limited was selected on 21 April 2026 for £74,359,725 excluding VAT (£89,231,670 including VAT). The awarded contract runs from 25 September 2026 to 31 March 2033, with four 12-month options extending the maximum period to 31 March 2037. The procurement had one lot, with an estimated value of £94,000,000 excluding VAT (£112,800,000 including VAT), and the expression-of-interest deadline was 22 May 2025. Three valid final-stage bids were received. Evaluation covered mandatory system compliance, delivery, accuracy, safety, human factors, through-life support, transition, training, supply-chain security and resilience, social value, environmental benefits, product development and UK SME participation. ISO 9001:2015 or a suitable alternative and AQAP 2110 quality requirements applied.

This award demonstrates sustained Ministry of Defence demand for an integrated weapon-locating radar capability and associated support, with the requirement extending beyond equipment manufacture into installation, testing, training, documentation, logistics and in-service support. A credible future competitor would need demonstrable radar and radar-modelling expertise, the ability to develop and validate system performance, and capacity to manage complex military integration and delivery. Relevant strengths include accurate technical performance, compliance with demanding system requirements, safety and human-factors engineering, through-life support, transition planning and training delivery. Suppliers would also need robust quality management, secure and resilient supply chains, disruption planning, critical-material management and the ability to work with UK SMEs. Experience of defence governance, collaborative supply-chain delivery, environmental improvement and education or training initiatives would support competitiveness.

The National Armaments Director Group, part of the Ministry of Defence, intends to award a contract for the supply of a Close Find Radar capability under the SERPENS project. The procurement comprises the manufacture, installation, testing, delivery, support and associated services required to provide a radar-based weapon locating capability for the British Army's. The contract includes associated training, documentation, logistics support and in-service support activities. The contractor will deliver the capability and associated services in accordance with the requirements set out in the procurement documentation.

Options: Options are to be exercised to extend the in-service support beyond the core six-year term as a de-risking measure based on the complexity of system integration requirements for the SERPENS system. The means of pricing the additional option years will be governed by the provisions set out in the Contract Terms and Conditions

Renewal: The Contract will be extendable through the Authority exercising the rights afforded under the Contract Terms and Conditions to take up additional option years of in-service support.
