Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) is overseeing a procurement process titled "Lancashire & South Cumbria Dementia Post Diagnostic Support Service," falling under the health and social work services category. The contract has been divided into multiple lots spanning regions including Blackpool, East Lancashire, Central & West Lancashire, Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire North, and South Cumbria. The procurement, managed by NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit, is currently at the tender update stage. Initial plans to commission contracts from 1st July 2025 for a duration of three years, with an option for a further two-year extension, have been adjusted. Notably, the contract award decision for Lot 1 (Blackpool) has been withdrawn. The procurement method is limited and is carried out without a call for competition, as per the Health Care Services Regulations 2023. Key dates include the standstill period ending on 28th April 2025 for written representations concerning the intention to award the contract.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the healthcare and social work sector, particularly those offering dementia support services. While Alzheimer's Society is a potential supplier for these services, the competitive nature of this procurement suggests opportunities for qualified health service providers to secure a contract in one of the specified lots. Businesses that specialise in post-diagnostic support for dementia, including caregiver support, community engagement, and flexible service provision, would be well-suited to compete. Small to medium enterprises with expertise in creating dementia-friendly environments and comprehensive care plans have a favourable prospect for growth and development in collaboration with the NHS Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care Board.

The objectives of the service will be to: * Provide a named contact through an individual's journey with dementia * Provide access to personalised information, advice and support as identified * Enable individuals with a diagnosis to access all support deemed to be essential post diagnosis * Support individuals with a diagnosis to maintain their community connections and make new ones * Support individuals with a diagnosis and their families to access peer support * Provide support for the people who support and care for the person with dementia * Establish a plan of needs, support and contact which will be revisited as part of a regular review * Create and maintain links with all relevant support services and networks who will provide support and care to the individuals * Improve individuals understanding of their illness and management of symptoms * For individuals who do not want the service, they will be made aware that if they want to access the service in the future, they can by contacting the dementia navigator directly. The contract length for all contracts will be 3 year(s), with an optional extension of 2 year(s), starting 1st July 2025.
