Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the "The Collection and Disposal of Food Waste" service is being undertaken by Cumberland Council, located in Carlisle, Cumbria, United Kingdom. The tender is currently in the active stage with an open procedure aimed at securing a partner to provide separate food waste collection for businesses within the council's jurisdiction, in line with new recycling legislation. The industry category is refuse and waste related services, and the procurement includes a significant budget with an estimated value of £5,000,000. Key deadlines include an enquiry period ending on 10 June 2025 and a submission period closing on 23 June 2025 at 12:00 PM. The initial contract period spans from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2028, with options for two additional 12-month extensions.

This tender provides substantial opportunities for businesses involved in waste management and related services, particularly those with the capability to handle food waste via anaerobic digestion and possessing the necessary environmental permits. It is well-suited for SMEs that can offer high standards of service quality, considering the Council's focus on price (70%), social value (20%), and quality (10%) in the award criteria. By entering a concession contract, the successful bidder can expand their portfolio by serving the waste management needs of approximately 2,500 businesses in Cumberland, aligning with the Council’s sustainability goals and compliance with recycling standards. Such opportunities can drive growth for companies seeking to establish or enhance their presence in the region's waste services market.
