Summary of the contracting process

This procurement process involves the awarding of contracts for Specialised Commissioning Retained Mental Health, Learning Disability, and Autism Services (MHLDA) in the North West, under the direction of NHS England. The contract award notice was completed on 30th April 2025. This significant procurement falls under the Health Services category and covers several lots, including various essential mental health services across regions such as UKD72, UKJ4, and UKD3. The contracts have been awarded following a direct award process without prior publication under The Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 due to the specialised nature of the services and lack of alternative providers.

This tender provides considerable opportunities for existing large-scale providers of health services, particularly those specialising in mental health and associated services. The contracts are ideal for businesses with expertise in delivering complex mental health care, such as Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust and Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, which can benefit significantly due to the direct award process ensuring an uncompetitive market segment. It supports stable growth for large organisations adept at handling multi-regional health service provision whilst ensuring continuity of essential care pathways in the sector.

These contracts have been held by NHS England during 2024/25 and will be awarded on the same basis.<br/>These contracts include multiple interdependent services, reflecting the nature of specialised care.
