The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has initiated a tender in the planning stage for the procurement of immersive technology solutions to enhance educational services at their National Construction College. The tender, titled "Immersive Technology requirement," focuses on the development of immersive technologies such as VR, AR, and MR to support vocational training, personal development, and safety awareness in the construction industry. Interested suppliers are invited to register and deliver presentations by 19th May 2025, detailing their experience and solutions in the Post-16 Further and Higher Education skills sector. The engagement phase will include teams calls scheduled from 26th May onwards. The procurement, valued at approximately £4 million, will span 3+1 years, with a budget allocation of £1 million for the initial years 2025-26, and will be conducted under a dynamic purchasing system method within the UK region.

This procurement presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in immersive technology solutions, educational software, and support services, particularly those experienced in the educational sector. Enterprises focusing on training simulators, training aids, and industrial and personal development training services stand to benefit. The detailed specification of requirements being developed offers an avenue for businesses to influence key decisions and align their offerings with CITB's strategic goals. Companies with innovative approaches and proven solutions in integrating technology into educational and training environments are well-poised to succeed in this competitive tender process. The ability to demonstrate cost-effective, scalable, and adaptable solutions to meet specific learning outcomes will be crucial for potential contractors.

Notice Description

CITB are seeking to develop a range of immersive technologies to complement and enhance the training and educational services CITB's National Construction College (NCC) provide to our learners. As such we are seeking the expertise and guidance of industry experts to support the development of a detailed specification of requirements which will then be used to procure these services. CITB's aim is to develop a scope of requirements including a full end-to-end design of all associated requirements (hardware, software procurement and development, hosting and systems integration as well as other related peripherals such as power usage and internet connectivity) required to install and maintain a suite of XR technologies (e.g. immersive spaces/rooms, simulators/simulation, VR, AR and MR) designed to deliver known learning outcomes and objectives for apprenticeships and commercial courses. Learning outcomes may include - vocational trade-specific training, personal development, health and safety and hazard awareness (in construction and the built environment) The current budget for years 25-26 is PS1m with the expected contract length to be 3+1 years and estimated total value of the contract being PS4m approx. dependant on customer take up and budgetary approvals to continue. Suppliers are invited to register interest and deliver a presentation based on: "How they have delivered similar immersive technologies solutions in an educational or teaching environment, particularly in the Post-16 FE and/or HE skills sector, including an overview of why particular hardware, software and hosting options were chosen, their relative costs (purchase and maintenance) and their relative benefits, adaptability and applicability - including how and why specific immersive technologies are selected to meet the specific learning outcomes.
