Summary of the contracting process

The London Borough of Islington is currently in the planning stage of a public procurement process for the "2425-0609 Integrated Community Drug and Alcohol Service." This procurement, focused on delivering support services to adults dealing with drug and alcohol dependency, is set to occur within the London area, under the industry category of rehabilitation services. An online engagement session is scheduled for 19 March 2026, where interested suppliers can gain insights into the service specifications. The procurement, initiated as a tender, is part of a broader planning phase intended to bolster transparency and competition, with a projected start date for the contract in April 2027 and a total value of approximately £63.7 million. The initial contract period will extend until March 2032, with possible extensions adding up to four additional years.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses capable of providing comprehensive drug and alcohol support services, particularly those registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as voluntary and community sector enterprises, may find this procurement especially advantageous given its alignment with evidence-based interventions and national drug and alcohol treatment guidelines. The contract also envisions cooperation across various sectors, such as healthcare, criminal justice, and social care, to enhance local capacities in addressing substance misuse. Businesses specialising in pharmacological and psychosocial interventions, harm reduction, and integrated family support services would be well-suited to compete for this tender, positioning themselves as key players in such a substantial public health intervention.
