Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board is in the procurement process of awarding a contract to The British Red Cross Society for their voluntary car service, dedicated to assisting oncology patients. This procurement falls under the Provider Selection Regime and is not subject to the Public Contracts Regulations 2015. The service operates within the health services industry category, focusing on transportation for chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Musgrove Beacon Centre and Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre. The procurement method employed is a direct award without the need for prior competition, and the standstill period for representations is set to close by 11th June 2025. This process is still within the intention-to-award stage, pending final approval.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses involved in healthcare logistics and patient transportation services. Companies that specialise in or have the capacity for managing volunteer-driven transport within the healthcare sector would be well-suited to compete and benefit from future opportunities arising from similar contractual needs. With an annual contract value estimated at £209,425, it also provides medium to large scale providers the chance to establish themselves as key players in delivering critical healthcare-related services. Professional capacity to maintain high-quality standards in such essential services is a crucial competitive advantage in this procurement process.
