Medical Services - Ill Health Retirement Assessment

Notice Description

The Department requires the expertise of a medical service supplier whose clinical advisors will provide advice on whether applications for ill health retirement under the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) meet the criteria set out in the regulations. A successful service provider will be responsible for reviewing all new ill health applications, including serious ill health applications, as well as first-stage and second-stage appeals. They will also provide a written medical assessment of a member's current health and/or life expectancy, and make associated medical recommendations on a member's eligibility, or continued eligibility, for an ill health pension, as determined by the relevant legislation. Our existing contract runs out on 31 March 2026. We anticipate the new contract will be awarded at the beginning of December 2025 to allow sufficient transition/ implementation time before 1 April 2026.
